Director Profile

Dorothy Dickie

Dorothy parlayed her love of sports into her first job as a sports writer, covering mostly amateur sport issues, including a first person account of the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon. Her first effort in television was producing for the children's program Switchback, then producing and directing for the Gemini-winning series Street Cents. She later produced for the CFCF-TV series Hockey World, Montréal Sports, the independent documentary Killer Coach and the CBC network profile series Personal Best, where she covered events like the New York City Marathon while running with a camera.

Dorothy won two awards writing for the CTV sport documentary series Donohue's Legends. She also covered a wide range of American stories for PBS, including a special on the life of bluesman Mighty Sam McClain.

Wrestling with the Spirit was a labour of love inspired during the centennial year of the Doukhobors arrival in Canada when Dorothy attended the funeral of her grandmother in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan, where the original family homestead still stands.
