David Adkin grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he developed an abiding passion for Canada and the West. A Farmer from Amber Valley is his third film for A Scattering of Seeds, following First Lady of the Yukon: Martha Black, and The Reluctant Politican: The Story of Irene Parlby. An award-winning director with eclectic interests, Adkin's early work includes a short comic satire on consumerism, The Salesman, and two critically-acclaimed video anthologies: Media & Society and Constructing Reality, both designed to teach media literacy to young people. As a documentarian of contemporary social issues, Adkin directed a trilogy of films dealing with the lives of gay and lesbian people. Out: Stories of Lesbian and Gay Youth examines the impact of homophobia on young people and their families. Jim Loves Jack: The James Egan Story, chronicles the life of Canada's pioneer gay activist. We're Funny That Way, about openly-gay comedians, explores the power of laughter to overcome social prejudice.
