David Adkin grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he developed an abiding passion for Canada and the West. The Reluctant Politician is his second film for A Scattering of Seeds following last year's Klondike story, First Lady of the Yukon; Martha Black. An award-winning director with eclectic interests, Adkin's early work includes a short comic satire on consumerism, The Salesman (1986), and two critically acclaimed video anthologies for the National Film Board, Media & Society and Constructing Reality, both designed to teach media awareness to young people. As a documentarian of contemporary social issues, Adkin has directed three award- winning films dealing with the lives of gay and lesbian people: Out: Stories of Lesbian and Gay Youth; Jim Loves Jack, The James Egan Story; and We're Funny That Way, which features openly-gay comedians and explores the power of laughter to overcome social prejudice.
