- The first wave of Haitian
immigrants received a warm welcome and easily found jobs in their areas
The early Haitian immigrants, those who came between 1960 and 1970,
made up the Haitian elite. They came from a comfortable life in terms
of their social and professional status. Most were doctors, academics,
teachers. These Haitians received a warm welcome to Québec.
Many had a level of education higher than that of the average Québécois.
The medical, educational and civil service sectors of Québec
society at the time were expanding. Haitians with these backgrounds
were in demand and found work right away.
