- Question 1
- The first Polish immigrants
to Canada came after WWII.
False.
The first migration of Poles to Canada took place between 1854 and
1915. For many centuries Poland had played a prominent role in Europe.
But towards the end of the 18th century, Poland lost its independence
and was annexed by its neighbours of Russia, Prussia and Austria.
The following assimilation of Polish territories brought religious
persecution and a struggling economy, which motivated Polish emigrant
to seek better opportunities in Canada. Another major wave of Polish
immigrants came to Canada after the end of WWII.
