who resettled in Canada were taken in by government sponsored support
Over half of the Indochinese refugees--over 32,000 of a total 60,000--were
sponsored by private Canadian families, church groups and organizations
that wanted to do something to help. Private sponsorship helped alleviate
concerns about the government's costs in accepting so many refugees.
The fact that so many Canadians participated helped the refugees resettle
faster and with greater ease.
