Irish immigrants of the
nineteenth century came to Canada to create a new home and begin a
new life. Many brought little more with them than memories of misery
and the evils they fled from in Ireland. Many had spent all of their
meager savings on passage to the New World and when they arrived here
they had to start from scratch.
How do those without
great wealth, like many of our nation's first Irish immigrants,
contribute to Canada?
