- Canada continues to
receive a significant number of immigrants of European origin.
The newest wave of immigrant settlement in Canada is characterized
by its increasingly non-European origin. In 1961, 90% of all immigrants
to Canada came from Europe, by the 1980's Europeans constituted about
25% of the total with an increasing proportion of immigrants coming
from east or south Asia, the Middle east, or the Caribbean.
