of British Columbia took away the rights of Indian Canadians to vote.
In 1909 the government of British Columbia took away the rights of
Indians to vote - a right that should have been guaranteed at the
time by the fact that they were British subjects, like all other Canadians.
It wasn't until 1947, fifty years after their arrival in Canada, that
Indians were finally given the right to vote as Canadian citizens.
