Robbie Robertson: Testimony is a revealing documentary about the leader of the legendary rock group The Band. The film is an intimate, confessional, cautionary, and often darkly humorous tale of sex, drugs, rock and roll, brotherhood, and betrayal.

A half-Mohawk, half-Jewish kid from Toronto, Robertson got his break at 16 with Ronnie Hawkins’ ‘Hawks’. He was Dylan’s guitarist on the notorious 1966 “electric” world tour. As leader of the The Band, Robertson collaborated on the ground-breaking ‘Basement Tapes’, inventing “Americana”, with songs like ‘The Weight’ and ‘Up on Cripple Creek’.  It all culminated with the seminal concert and Martin Scorsese film, The Last Waltz.

The film blends rare archival footage, animation and the participation of many of Robertson’s friends and collaborators. We follow Robertson in the making of his new album, collaborating with new friends like The Weeknd.

Appearances by Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Rick Rubin, Bruce Springsteen, Carly Simon, Malcolm Gladwell, Martin Scorsese, Ronnie Hawkins, David Geffen & others.
