There are all kinds of night sweats on the graveyard shift, some of pleasure, some of pain, some of reliving pain.
Riona is a 54-year-old nurse who has been working at Sick Kids in neurosurgery for the past 14 years. She's currently taking a degree in nursing (she has only a diploma to date) at Ryerson.
Twenty-six years ago, she moved from Saskatchewan with a suitcase, $60.00 and a plan to return in a couple of years. She hasn't been back since. Her unit at Sick Kids deals with children who have suffered trauma in accidents, have cancer, or require neurosurgery. Walter Cerneka, Pizza Man Walter is a short, 42-year-old philosopher, ex-actor and the adopted son of Gino Cerneka, who started Amato's Pizza in Toronto several years ago. Gino died recently and Walter and his half-brothers are now in charge. They work days and he works nights.
Like many night workers, Walter is a self-made man. He's a friendly, fast-talking, fun-loving guy and there's always lots of action at the restaurant on Queen and Bathurst. The walls are covered with Polaroids of Gino, Walter and celebrities.
