“An urgent and fascinating documentary.” – Variety

“Chilling…lucidly argues that powerful interests have been creating supercharged fake stories
for decades.” – Globe and Mail
My father once told me, “If something goes wrong with government, a free press will ferret it out and it will get fixed.  But if something goes wrong with the free press, the country will go straight to hell.”
– Jeremy J. Stone, son of I.F. Stone
July 27, 2018 – White Pine Pictures is delighted that our documentary feature film, All Governments Lie: Truth, Deception and the Spirit of I. F. Stone has been nominated for an Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary, through U.S. channel Starz. The nominations for the 39th Annual News and Documentary Emmys were announced July 26, 2018 in New York, NY by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The awards will be presented October 1, 2018 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.
Directed by Emmy-winning journalist and filmmaker Fred Peabody, All Governments Lie follows investigative journalist heavyweights Amy Goodman, Glenn Greenwald, Jeremy Scahill, Matt Taibbi and others as they expose government and corporate deception – just as ground-breaking independent journalist I.F. Stone did decades ago.
In this “post truth” era where “alternate truths”, bald-faced lies, and the U.S. President’s distrust of the media are front-page news, All Governments Lie is a timely documentary for audiences who are increasingly seeking alternatives to mainstream news owned by large corporations.
“I’m honoured by this recognition from the Academy.” Said Peabody on learning of the film’s nomination. “We need fearless independent journalists like the late, great I.F. Stone now more than ever. This nomination reinforces that we’ve made a film that needs to be seen.”
The film is Executive Produced by Academy award-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone and by filmmaker Peter Raymont, president of White Pine Pictures, producer/director of the Emmy Award-winning documentary Shake Hands With the Devil: The Journey of Romeo Dallaire
All Governments Lie premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival and has screened at more than 60 film festivals and special presentations worldwide, including opening the London Human Rights Watch Film Festival. The film was released theatrically in Canada, USA and Japan, and reached #1 in the Documentary category on iTunes Canada within its first week of release. The film was honoured with Directors Guild of Canada’s Allan King Award for Best Documentary and Best Editing and was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Documentary and Best Direction. The film was broadcast on Super Channel and SRC in Canada before being acquired by Starz in the USA, ARTE in France-Germany, NHK Japan, and YLE Finland.
